Problems with Erectile Dysfunction are Not Uncommon

Over 18 million men in the United States over the age of 20 experience erectile dysfunction.
This is according to research by scientists from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. According to the research, the incidence of erectile dysfunction was strongly associated with age,

cardiovascular disease, and diabetes, as well as a lack of physical exercise. Consequently, men are vigorously seeking impotence solutions so they can have full and satisfying sex lives.

Further, the research findings indicate that changes in lifestyle including increased physical activity and steps to prevent cardiovascular disease and diabetes may further prevent decreased erectile function. The results of this study are published in the February 1, 2007, issue of the American Journal of Medicine.

For men over the age of 40 in the United States, about one in two have experienced some trouble getting or maintaining an erection at some time. Men find it difficult to talk to their doctor about this condition and impotence solutions. Consequently, few men talk to a doctor about the proper treatment for erectile dysfunction, which is nearly as common as failing eyesight or a receding hairline.

Understanding Erections and the Male Anatomy

Sexual stimulation causes erections in two basic ways which include central stimulation and direct stimulation. Central stimulation is one way to cause an erection. Here, the brain responds to visual and/or aural cues and sends electrical impulses down the spinal cord to nerves in the pelvis. Direct genital stimulation is another way to cause an erection. Here, direct genital stimulation creates a reflex action in the spinal cord through nerves running beside the prostate and into the penis.

In both central stimulation and direct genital stimulation, nitric oxide (NO) is released during the stimulation process. Nitric oxide activates an enzyme, resulting in an increased level of an important chemical messenger known as cGMP. cGMP causes the arteries inside special chambers in the penis to relax, allowing blood to flow into these special chambers in the penis. Blood filling these chambers in the penis causes an erection to occur.

An erection will occur for as long as increased levels of this chemical messenger cGMP is produced and blood is trapped in these chambers in the penis. When the mental or sensory stimulation passes, another enzyme called PDE5 is produced which breaks down the chemical messenger cGMP. Without cGMP, blood is allowed to flow out of the special chambers of the penis and the process is reversed. The penis becomes flaccid.

How Viagra Works

Simply put, Viagra works by increasing blood flow into the penis. Viagra does this by inhibiting the action of the enzyme PDE5, which prevents the breakdown of the chemical messenger cGMP. With the action of the enzyme PDE5 on the chemical messenger cGMP inhibited or blocked by Viagra, cGMP levels remain high, and an erection is maintained.

This allows the chemical messenger cGMP that instructs the arteries controlling blood flow to the penis to accumulate at increased levels, so the natural process of an erection can occur. With Viagra maintaining the level of chemical messenger cGMP, men are able to achieve and maintain an erection when they are stimulated.

Viagra is Effective

Viagra is a prescription medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. If taken correctly, Viagra works for 8 out of 10 men. Impotence solutions could be just a prescription away! Having said that, it’s important to follow some simple recommendations for having a better sexual experience with Viagra. Viagra improves erections with most men regardless of how long they have had erectile dysfunction, no matter the cause of their ED, how often they experience ED or how old they are. It comes a no surprise that Viagra is the most prescribed treatment for erection problems.

What Men Want From Their Treatment of ED

What men with erectile dysfunction are looking for in a treatment for ED is being able to maintain an erection throughout love-making, to increase partner satisfaction and to maintain a firmer erection. To put it bluntly, men with ED want better sex.

It has been clinically proven that Viagra provides firmer erections. This benefit of Viagra allows men to maintain an erection for the entire duration of intercourse allowing couples to engage in successful lovemaking. Men and partners who use Viagra indicate a satisfaction rating of over 90% and suggest they will continue to use Viagra for a better sex life.

Viagra is There When You Need It

Viagra is at its highest concentration in your body in 1 hour. This drug characteristic matches studies of men’s sexual habits. Studies show that the amount of time that passes between a couple contemplating sex and actual intercourse is just under one hour, whether a man has an erection problem or not. But don’t worry if your timing is a little off, Viagra lasts for up to 4 hours and allows for prompt onset of action.

With Viagra, you must be sexually excited to get an erection. If you take Viagra and are not sexually stimulated, nothing will happen. You won’t get an erection just by taking the pill. Viagra is not an aphrodisiac or a hormone. It’s a medicine that treats a physical erection problem.

Viagra Safety

Safety is of paramount importance when considering any medication. Viagra has been tested in more than 110 controlled studies and has been used by over 20 million men worldwide. Through these studies and real-world experience Viagra has been shown to have a proven safety profile and to be well tolerated.

Viagra has been prescribed by more than 600,000 doctors and is the only treatment for erections problems with a proven safety profile that extends more than 4 years. If you have any concerns over the safety of Viagra, discuss these concerns with your doctor. Always share your detailed medical history with your doctor.

Because not every medication is right for everyone, be sure to talk to your doctor to see if Viagra is right for you. And please read through the important safety information.

Ensuring Viagra Is Right for You

There are very clear guidelines about who can take Viagra and who can’t. And there’s only one way to know for sure if VIAGRA is right for you – you must visit your doctor for a physical exam and a face-to-face conversation about your own particular problems. It’s important to tell your doctor about any medicines you may be taking, both prescription and non-prescription. A medicine you are taking for another health problem might be causing your ED, but never stop taking any medicine before talking to your doctor.

Your doctor will advise whether Viagra is right for you.

Ask Your Doctor About Viagra

Erection problems are most likely to be a physical problem that can be treated with Viagra, regardless of your age, the cause of your erection problem or how long you’ve had it. But first, you have to talk to your doctor about it.

Your doctor is there to provide you with the understanding, support and all the information you need. The only thing your doctor doesn’t know is that you have an erection problem. Beginning the discussion is up to you.

So talk to your doctor the next time you have a scheduled check up or better yet, make an appointment to see your doctor specifically to discuss Viagra. Over 20 million men already have, so there’s no need to feel alone.
